Windows Server 2019 Datacenter is the premium edition of the Windows Server 2019 family, engineered for hyperscale private clouds and highly virtualized enterprise data centers. It provides unlimited Hyper-V virtual machine licenses per licensed host, enabling organizations to densely pack workloads without per-VM licensing costs. Shielded Virtual Machines use a combination of Trusted Platform Module (TPM) technology and BitLocker encryption to protect VMs from unauthorized access or inspection even by rogue administrators. The Host Guardian Service (HGS) verifies the integrity of each Hyper-V host before allowing shielded VMs to run on it.

Windows Server 2019 Datacenter introduced the Storage Migration Service, which automates the process of inventorying legacy servers, transferring data and configurations, and cutting over identities to the new server with zero downtime. Software-defined networking capabilities include network controller, network virtualization, and load balancing to deliver cloud-like agility on premises. System Insights uses predictive analytics with machine learning to forecast local storage, CPU, memory, and network resource usage before issues arise. Integration with Azure hybrid services enables centralized monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery through the Azure portal. Linux subsystem support and improved container runtimes make it ideal for DevOps teams.
